Add the oil, the stiffly beaten egg whites, then the flour mixed with baking powder. (Add the spices, lemon juice, and salt to the yolks.) Mix well with a wooden spoon. Pour three-quarters of the batter into a buttered (or oiled) and floured baking pan. Mix the remaining quarter with cocoa and pour it on top. Use a fork to gently swirl the dark batter into the light one to create a marble effect. Optionally, sprinkle whole or ground walnuts on top. Place the pan in a preheated oven (not too hot).
