Apple water cake is a fragrant, light but equally delicious dessert. Prepared with water sponge cake dough without eggs, butter or milk, it is the light and healthy variation of the classic apple pie. Using a few simple ingredients, such as flour, sugar, oil, water, flavorings and yeast, it can be prepared in just 10 minutes by mixing everything in a bowl. The addition of diced apples makes the consistency smooth and pleasantly moist, while vanilla extract and lemon zest give it an extraordinary fragrance.

The watery apple pie is perfect for those who are intolerant or who simply want to make a light, authentic but equally tasty dessert. Delicious for breakfast or as a snack, bathed in a cup of milk or hot tea, it will appeal to young and old alike. Suitable for all occasions, it can be enjoyed while still warm, perhaps with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of custard, or at room temperature simply sprinkled with a little icing sugar.

The watery apple pie can be seasoned with orange or lemon zest, but also with vanilla or ground cinnamon. If you prefer, instead of water you can use vegetable milk or orange juice. You can enrich the apple and water cake with finely chopped nuts, raisins soaked in water and squeezed or with chocolate chips.
