Fruit nets can be very useful for making many objects — never throw them away.

When summer arrives and temperatures rise significantly, it’s time to adjust your diet too, by eating more fruits and vegetables. Many fruits are recommended in summer, especially on very hot days. Because we’re encouraged to eat as much fruit as possible in summer, we tend to accumulate many fruit nets that we then throw in the trash.

This is avoidable, since fruit nets can be reused at home, helping you save money and reduce waste.

1. Make a Homemade Dish Sponge The first solution is to recover some string along with the fruit net. Pass the string through the holes of the net, parallel to the outer edge. Inside the area you’ve just delimited with the string, insert other waste nets, then close everything to create a kind of sponge. With the remaining thread, make a knot to hold the sponge in place.

With these simple steps, you’ve created a sponge that can completely replace a metal one. Try it and you’ll see how effective this homemade sponge is. With this tool and a bit of dish soap, you can remove all encrustations from pots and pans, just like a metal sponge.

2. Secure Flowers in a Vase Take a fruit net and cut it into small pieces. Use one piece to cover a glass vase half-filled with water. Take an elastic band and secure the piece of net well to the vase, neatly finishing the edges. Finally, use a simple fabric ribbon to tie everything around the neck of the vase. You can now insert flowers into the glass vase by passing them through the holes of the fruit net. This way, the flowers will stay in place and the arrangement will look much nicer.
