Kremšnita is a millefeuille-like layer cake with vanilla cream and whipped cream popular in some Central European countries. Very easy to prepare and super tasty, you have to try it!
INGREDIENTS 2 rectangles of puff pastry 8 tablespoons caster sugar 1 cup heavy cream For mix #1 10 egg yolks 2½ cups flour 1 cup sugar 3 tablespoons vanilla sugar ¾ cup milk 1 spoon vanilla For mixture n°2 5 cups milk 5 cups water 3 tablespoons vanilla sugar 2 tablespoons rumFor mixture n°3 10 egg whites 1 cup powdered sugar
METHOD
- Prick two rectangles of puff pastry with a fork and bake at 200°C for 10 minutes until golden brown.
- In a food processor, mix all the ingredients of mixture n°1.
- In a very large nonstick skillet, heat mixture #2 over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil and remove from heat.
- Add mixture no. 1, stir, then cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens, about 15 minutes.
- For mix #3, beat the egg whites and gradually add the powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Slowly and gradually add the egg whites to the warm mixture (#1 and #2).
- Place the first puff pastry in the bottom of the frame, fill with the hot cream mixture and refrigerate for 15 minutes.
- Mix the cream with 4 tablespoons of powdered sugar.
- Take the cake out of the fridge and pour a thin layer of whipped cream over it.
- Place the second rectangular puff pastry on top and sprinkle with 4 tablespoons of the remaining powdered sugar.
- Cut the cake into squares.
