To have a lush and healthy orchid, all you need to do is apply a simple method — that’s exactly what we’re talking about.
The orchid plant, like any plant, needs care and attention to last a long time. To have healthy and strong orchids, you can use certain natural methods. With proper care, it is possible to always have orchids with roots and new leaves all year round.
There is a very simple Asian method that allows orchids to develop strong roots and new leaves. To learn how to revive an orchid, read the instructions below.
Characteristics of Orchids
Orchids, which in the language of flowers symbolize beauty and sensuality, are beautiful and elegant flowers. This lovely flower of tropical and subtropical origin is also widespread in Italy. What distinguishes these flowers are their fleshy leaves and variegated blooms.
On the market, three species of orchids are particularly common, such as the famous moth orchid or Phalaenopsis. They grow well indoors at a temperature of about twenty degrees, in bright and humid places, never in direct sunlight.
A healthy orchid blooms twice a year, but it must be fertilized all year round. As for watering, water them only when they are completely dry. Since they are delicate plants that grow in loose soil, be careful never to overwater them.
How to Revive an Orchid
To revive an orchid, make it grow vigorously with healthy and robust roots, you can follow a method used by Asians. Start by taking an orchid plant and cleaning the roots of the soil. Then, using a pair of scissors, cut all the roots. At this point, after removing each root with your hands, eliminate the excess leaves, leaving only the central stem intact.
After carefully washing the orchid and drying the remaining leaves with cotton, take some garlic and crush it in a mortar. Place the crushed garlic at the bottom of a glass container. Add water to the garlic, then filter it into another container. The orchid should then be placed in a jar into which about one third is poured with garlic juice.
After leaving the small orchid in the garlic juice for about twenty minutes, let the plant dry in an empty glass. Meanwhile, take a small plastic bottle and cut the top to obtain a plastic cup. Then, place the upper part (neck) of the bottle on the bottom of the obtained glass.
The root of the small orchid should then be inserted inside the neck of the bottle. After that, add a little water without wetting the roots. The water at the bottom will evaporate over the hours and maintain the right humidity. Every two days, it is necessary to spray the orchid plant inside the bottle with a little water, and in one month it will quickly develop new roots and healthy, robust new leaves.
Orchid Care Tips
Orchids should always be planted in transparent pots, because their root system needs a lot of light to develop. Pots suitable for orchids are those that guarantee maximum oxygenation and ventilation.
Orchid plants should be watered by immersing their pot in a basin of water. Since orchids do not tolerate chlorine, it is better to spray and water them with rainwater or distilled water.
It is best to place the orchid in humid places such as the bathroom, kitchen, or a greenhouse. To make an orchid last, never expose it to direct sun, avoid water stagnation, and carefully prune the roots.
To make an orchid bloom again, simply administer fertilizer and water at the right frequency, regularly check and clean the leaves with a cloth or cotton. It is very important to keep them in a well-ventilated place at a temperature not exceeding twenty degrees.
